What makes us different?
Grown on prime STAFFORDSHIRE light land, produce is harvested on a daily basis in season, as early as 5am, travelling a short distance in a fleet of modern bulkers, to reach the state-of-the-art packhouse by around 8am. First customers receive deliveries as early as 1pm, just six hours after harvesting.
All aspects of the business are managed by an in-house team, from agronomy, planting, harvesting, crop processing, quality assurance, and marketing. By combining the use of modern machinery with current crop husbandry techniques, such as the use of sophisticated underground irrigation systems, R&RW Bartlett is able to produce the very best quality root crops, with a specialist focus upon parsnip and turnip…all year round.
Parsnip crop harvested during the cold winter months is protected from the frost by plastic, with a deep layer of straw placed on top, enabling harvesting to be carried out irrespective of even the most adverse weather conditions. When UK parsnips are briefly out of season, R&RW Bartlett provides customers with seamless continuity, filling the gap with parsnips grown in Spain.
The farms are managed with compassion and empathy for the environment – for instance, where possible fields are hand weeded. Numerous watercourses and old canals run through the land and in many places wild grass seed mixes are sown to provide habitat for plant, bird and wildlife.
All crops are grown to the strict standards of practice of the Farm Assured Produce Scheme and R&RW Bartlett produce is packed with the Little Red Tractor sign. Regular audits monitor systems such as the complex record keeping procedure via fully computerised farm software, through to the application of farm inputs. Always looking forward, R&RW Bartlett has a significant investment programme, constantly updating machinery to take advantage of technological advancements.
